Magna Carta
This Act was put in place because King John was abusive. It was hoped to lessen the abuse but the King ignored it after signing. Some of the ideals in this document made it into the U.S. Constitution. -
Mayflower Compact
This was the first governing document in the area. It was the first step to take the land, free the land, and protect the people. -
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut.
This was the first ever constitution and laid out the foundations for the U.S. Constitution. -
English Bill of Rights
This Bill further suppressed the power of the king. It allowed for trial by jury rather than trial by king. It give citizens the right to bear arms. Lastly it coined no cruel and unusual punishments. These ideals were all added t the U.S. Constitution. -
French and Indian War
This war was the French and Indians vs British and colonists. It is also what started the conflict between the British and colonist. The colonist were tax to pay off the war debt. This lead to the rebellion which lead to the U.S. Constitution. -
Albany Plan of Union
This was the first plan created for an independent government. Some of the ideals were transferred into the U.S. Constitution. -
First Continental Congress
It was created to stop trade with England. The group of people running it were the same group of people who would eventual write, edit, and sign the U.S. Constitution. -
Second Continental congress
This congress was created three weeks after the start of the revolutionary war. It became the government during the war. It was also the government responsible for creating the U.S. Constitution. -
Declaration of Independence
This document declared America its own country. It also lead the way to the need for the U.S. Constitution. This was done to protect the people's rights. -
Articles of Confederation
This was the first constitution for the United States. Not every colony signed so the U.S. Constitution was created. -
Shay's Rebellion
This was a result of civil injustices which were addressed in the U.S. Constitution afterwards. -
Virginia Paln
This gave the idea for a legislative branch. This idea was implemented in the U.S. Constitution. -
New Jersey Plan
This was another plan for the U.S. Constitution. -
Three - Fifths Compromise
This made slaves worth 3/5 of a vote. This was put into the constitution.
