Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was signed by King John I in 1215. it was signed in Runnymede which sits by the Thames river. It followed a revolt by the English nobility against King John's rule. The Magna Carta was also known as the "Great Charter". It was essentially a peace treaty between King John and his barons. The Magna Carta guaranteed that the King would respect fuedal rights, uphold freedom of the Church, and maintain the nation's laws. -
Mayflower Compact
This document promised to create a " civil body politic " governed by elected officals and " just and equal laws" . It also swore allegiance to the English King. -
Petiton of Rights
It contains restrictions on non- parliamentry taxation, forced billeting of soldiers, imprisonment without cause, and restricts the use of marital law. King Charles I signed the Petition of Rights. -
English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of Rights lays down limits on the powers of the crown and sets out the rights of Parliament and rules for freedom of speech in Parliament, It reestablished the liberty of Protestants to have arms for their defence within the rule of law. The parliment of England was invovled with the signing. William and Mary were also part of the signing -

French and Indian War
The French and Indian War was a battle between the colonies of Bitish America and New France and thier parent countries Great Britain and France. Some major battles of this war were the defeat of the French at Fort Dusquesne,the caputuring of Louisbourg and Fort Dusquesne by the British, Battle of Quebec, Battle of Quiberon Bay. The Bristish ultimatly won this conflict. This made the American colonists mad and the British started to tax more. -
Albany Plan of Union
The Albany of Union was a proposal to create a unified goverment for the thirteen colonies. It was suggested by Ben Franklin. The plan never happened. The famous polictal cartoon about the Albany Plan of Union with the snake cut into pieces was drawen by Ben Franklin. -
King George III takes power
King George had large debts to pay from French and Indian War so Parliment and he tried to extract the money from the colonists of America and blame it on them. This now turned American colonists relationship with the British bad. -
Stamp Act
History of The Stamp ActThe English imposed a new tax on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every peice of printed paper they used. The Virginia House of Burgesses adopted Patrick Henry's Stamp Act Resolves. These resolves declared that Americans possesd the same right as the English, especially the right to be taxed by their own repersentives. -
Boston Massacare
The Boston Massacare was an incident where British troops fired on a group of colonists killing five of them. Colonists were angered by the recent acts that were being enforced including the Stamp Act and the Townshed Acts. -
Boston Tea Party
The History of the Boston Tea PartyThe Boston Tea Party occured when a group of colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians boarded British ships in the Boston Harbor and dumped all of the tea in the Harbor. The men disguised as Mohawk Indians were actually a group called the Sons of Liberty ,Sam Adams was a part of this group. Intolerable Acts
The Boston Tea Party caused the British Parliment to pass these laws. A provision of these is British closed all of Boston's ports until the colonists payed for the tea they destroyed during the Boston Tea Party. Another provision is British restricted colonists to have goverment/committees/town meetings. Another provison is British allowed to have themselves to have troops wherever, whenever. Lastly, they let British officals accussed of crimes stand trial in Britain instead of the Colonies. -
First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress met at Carpenters Hall in Philedelphia,Pennsylvania. The major personalities of this Congress includes George Washington, Patrick Henry, Edmund Pendleton ,Benjamin Franklin, Richard Bland, and Peyton Randolph. All colonies sent repersentives except Georgia. The Congress sent their grievences to the King of England -
Lexington and Concord
History of Lexington and ConcordLexington and Concord are considered the first battles of the revolution. It was the time for the colonists to determine which side of the fight they would join. Patriots or Loyalists. Colonists Generals were John Parker and James Barret and British General, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith.The British lost 273 soldiers, while the colonists only lost 94. Paul Revere was to warn the men in Concord that the British were coming to collect the guns and powder stored there. -

The Second Congress happened in Carpenters Hall in Philedelphia PA. The ideas that were discussed were the idea of The Declaration of Independence, and that Thomas Jefferson will write it. History of the Delcaration of independenceA five man committee including Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin was tasked with drafting a formal statement of the colonies intentions. The Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia on July fourth. -

Treaty of Paris
Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain on one side and the United States of America and its allies on the other. United States was repersented by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay.The new territories and land tht became new boundries for the U.S. are the Grand Banks off Newfoundland, all land between Alleghany Mountains and east of the Mississippi. The British finnally reconized the Delcaration of Independence. -
Start of the Constitutional Convention
The Convention was to discuss the revising the Articles of Confederation, to discuss commerce among the staes, and to remedy barriers which limited trade or commerce between the stes under the Articles of Confederation. Only five state delegates came to the Convention- Deleware, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
