    It was the debate if Missouri would become a slave state. The compromise was that Missouri ended up being a slave state and Maine was a free state.
    Two facts:
    *The Slave and Free boundary was 36 30' .
    *Henry Clay was the sponsor.
    This caused tension between the North and south because the North did not want more slave states and the south criticized it because it meant that Congress could make laws about slavery.

    Nat Turner killed about 60 white people.
    2 facts:
    *Nat turner and 55 other slaves were convicted and executed for their role.
    *Nat Turners rebellion was the bloodiest .
    This caused tension between the North and South because 200 slaves were murdered that revolted against the N.T rebellion. The south began to fear of general slave uprising, since the rebellion was the result of groth in the south.

    Helped bring the issue of slavery to life and and also caused a widening of the division between the north and south.

    Both people from each side of slavery went to Kansas hoping to influence citizens and help them decide. This resulted in bloodshed.

    *56 people died because of this dispute
    *some people argue that it is the first battles of the civil war
    This caused tension between the south and north because the violence shocked and troubled the nation.

    It allowed the people in those states to choose whether they wanted to be slave states. They had to vote.

    *It was made to get ride of the Missouri compromise line of 36 30'.
    *Kansas resulted in being a free state .
    This caused tension between the North and South because the Whigs could not agree on slavery and they split up. The south was against this act, and spread slavery to the west.

    Dred scott decided he wanted to sue for slavery, and the court ruled it as he cannot sue because he was simply property, and not a person.

    *The court at the time did not have the power to abolish slavery.
    This increased tension between the north and south because territorial limitations on slavery and polarization intensified.

    *John Brown wanted to distribute weapons to southern slaves, to create a series of slave uprisings.
    This caused tension between the north & south because the North agreed the south should revolt
