Polk sent Sidel to mexico to try and buy New Mexico and California. Mexico's president refuses to meet with Sidel because the press called him a traitor for considering selling mexican land. -
US Troops Stationed at Disputed Border
Polk orders General Zachary Taylor to send troops to the Río Grande and hold the position between the disputed border of the US and Mexico -
US Declares War
After recieving Tyler's letter, Polk asks congress to declare war on Mexico. 50000 people volunteer to be in the army, and Polk hopes the deceration will intimidate Mexico and resolve the Texas border problem. Polk also hopes it will intimidate Mexico into selling New Mexico and California to the US. -
US Victories (Battle of Monterrey)
Taylor's Army invades Monterrey and wins agains General Pedro de Ampudia in hope of cutting off northern Mexico. Success stories help the Government recruit more troops. -
Mexico City Surrenderd
The Mexicans tried to hold the Castle of Capultepec while under fire for 14 hours. After unable to get reinforcements, the Mexicans finally succumb and Mexico City was captured by the US. -
Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed and rushed to Washington where it is ratified by Congress.
