DISCOVERY OF THE NEW WORLD
Christopher Columbus discovered America thinking that it was India for spain and brought christianity to the land. He started the Columbus Exchange and traded with the Europe, Asia and Africa. -

The Spanish Empire
The empire started when christopher columbus started searching for india, but happened to find America. hernan cortes in 1519 with the help of the indians he he conquered Aztec capital Tenochtitlan. -

Inca Empire Conquered
Francisco Pizarro conquered the Inca Empire. It was very easy for him since a lot of people had already died from smallpox. the Incas were not able to defend themselves that much. -

New France
Jacques Cartier claimed Canada for New France. Over there he discovered beaver fur which is very valuable. Rober De La Salle explored the Mississipi river fo France. -
The Lost Colony of Roanoke
Sir Walter Raleigh found a colony in the Roanoke island, but he arrived at a bad time since they could not plant crops. So the leader went back to England and came back after three years, but when he did come the island was not found. the lost colony is still a mystery. -
Jamestown: The First English Colony
John Cabot landed in the coast of Canada, but he believed he had landed in Asia. The land was marcht and was infested with malaria carrying mosquitos. Jamestown was a peninsula. -
New Netherland
When Henry Hudson went to search the Northwest passage he claimed land for the Dutch and named it New Netherland.They bought the land with very low price from the natives who lived there. They had a good friendship with the Iroquois. -
Starving time in Jamestown
Jamestown had went through a period called the Starving time during winter after Captain John Smith went back to England.The English even had to eat dogs and rats to be alive. Only 60 out of 500 people had survived in Jamestown survived. -
Maryland, where all religions are welcomed
Maryland colony is surrounded by Chesapeake bay. this was the first colony that gave law guaranteeing religion liberty. It also a self governing and MARYLAND has various religions, but mostly catholics. -
Proclamation of 1763
The British government faced problems after the French and Indian war. So, what King George did was he drew a lind in the crest of the Appalachian mountain to separate them. the colonist felt that it was not fair. -
The Stamp Act
The stamp act was announced by king george since they had large amount of dept from the french and indian war. the colonists had to buy stamps for every piece of paper they used. that include news paper, license, playing cards, etc. after a lot of protest they finally decided to cancel the stamp out. -
The Quartering Act
As the stamp act started to fade, king George passed a new law called the Quartering act. The colonists had to let the British soldiers live in their house, and furnish them. The reason this happened was because taking care of the soldiers costs a lot, so the colonists were asked to do it. The colonists think the soldiers took up space and did nothing. -
The Townshend Act
The Townshend Act was passed in 1767 by the parliament. It placed a tax on certain goods. These goods included such popular items as glass, paint, paper, and tea. The colonists boycotted the British goods. And since women did most of the shopping they found other ways to fulfill their needs -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act was passed to rescue the British East India Company. This lowered the price of tea and the only people who sold them were the people chosen by the company. It was another way for the British to tax the colonists. The colonists were not fooled and so decided to dump all the tea in the harbor. And so it is called the Boston Tea Party. -
The Intolerable Acts
It was passed in1774 to punish the Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. They put the harbor, governer of massachusetts under the british control.British soldiers who were accused of murder would be tried in England, not in the colonies.More troops were sent to Boston to enforce the new laws. The colonists sent letters as protest to King George. -
Lexington & Concord
It was the first battle between the British and the colonits. The British took these actions after all the things the colonists did. So the British were going to the concord on their way they stopped at lexington, where the colonist attacked and there was a fight. The colonists lost and after that the war began. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
The Battle of Bunker hill was short and bloodt. More than 1000 British Troops were killed and nearly half of that many Americans. The colonists stopped the british 3 times, but since they ran out of gunpowder they left. This showed that the colonists were stong too. -
The Olive Branch Petition
The Congress sent a petition to King george asking to end all the fights. John Adams called it Olive Branch because it showed peace. This proved that this was the last warning the congress is sending to the parliament. -
The Second Continental Congress
In the second continental congress John Adams elected George Washington as the new commander in chief of the new Continential army formed by all the colonies. -
The Siege of Boston (The British Abandon Boston)
Since Washington had only 36 barrels gunpowder, he made a plan that would make the British think that they had 1800 barrels of gun powder. The british fell for it, and meanwhile they collected it from the other colonies. Since they also need artillery they sent some men to an old british fort called Ticonderoga. When the attack started the british sent 9000 British troops and 1100 loyalist back to Canada since they did not want them to die. -
The Declaration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson wrote the declaration of Independence. It was simple, but meant a lot. he said that all people were equal and had the right to be independent. It said that King George did nothing for the colonies and used his power in the wrong way. The only thing that was wrong about it was the part about slavery and so they changed it and then all the delegates signed it and so the colnies voted for independence. -
Battle for New York
There was a battle in New York between the Americans and the British. The Colonists lost since it was untrained soldiers. The British lost 377 men and the Americans lost 1407. -
Trenton
The British surrundered because George Washington and his army attacked the British by surprise. They were sleeping of late since the night before they had their christmas eve dinner. -
Saratoga
When the British attacked the colonists, they were outnumbered. But the fought and by the end they surrundered.this boosted the confidence level of the colonists. -
Ratification of the Articles of Confederation
The Articles of confederation established laws for Americans, and there was needed change since it gave too much power to the state government and so this took several years to do. -
Yorktown
The French had sent 5000 troops to join Washington's army and the britsh did not know that, Cornwaliis figured that Yorktown was not in a great position so he decided to surrender. -
Treaty of Paris
There were 3 key provisions of the Treaty of Paris.
1. Britain recognized American as an independent nation
2.Britain gave up all their claim
3.The Americans had to return the property taken from the loyalists. -
Shay's Rebellion
Daniel Shay was the reason the rebellion started. He was a farmer who could not pay all his depts and so he was jailed. Other farmer like him could not also pay their depts so they started to burn courthauses and destroy all those data. -
Constitutional Convention
The delegates met in Pheladelfia and talked about the problems of the articles of Confederation and later the Article was signed by the delegates. -
Ratification of the U.S. Constitution
Nine out of 13 states were to ratify the constitution. 38 out of 50 delegates signed it. -
The Louisiana Purchase
The U.S bought all of New Orleans and Lousiana territory and at the same time kick out the French army so that they were no longer a threat to America. This decision was made by Thomas Jefferson -
Spain gives Florida to the U.S.
U.S bought Florida to avoid war with Spain, since it would cost a lot. Andrew Jackson was sent to Georgia to chase the Indians to Florida, but instead he invaded Florida and agreed U.S would take out taxes. -
Issue that upset norherners
Northerners opposed when Missouri applied for statehood as a slave state. Noetherners didn't want slave states to increase ans it will be uneven and will upset the balance. -

They were angered when Abolitionists wanted to stop slavery in Washingon D.C, but congress refused to consider anti slavery petitions. They were upset because slavery would continue in the U.S. -
The Indian Removal Act
This law was made by Andrew Jackson to move Native Americans from their homeland to other places. THey had to travel many miles depending on where they lived. -
The "Trail of Tears"
This was a devastating trip for the native americans from their homeland towards the Indian Territory. Their new home was much smaller than their homeland and then so amny kinds of tribes had to move their.Native Americans in this trip suffered a lot for many reasons and many died. -
Oregon Treaty
Oregan was firstly claimed by four nations—Russia, Spain, Great Britain, and the United States. Russia and Spain backed off and so left was Britain and U.S. Oregon made a treaty with Britain agreeing to divide Britain at the 49th parallel. It was safer to do a treaty with Britain, because they did not have that much power to again risk a war with Britain. 1000 pioneers headed towards Oregon. -
Texas is annexed
The U.S made a treaty with Mexico agreeing to split Texas between two countries. 300 settlers came in. Americans came in illegally. Stephen Austin agreed to follow mexican culture and religion. Texas was an independent state for 10 years. -
War with Mexico
The Americans signed a treaty with Mexico and gave up Texas and parts such as Nevada, Utah, Prizona, New Mexico and California. And Mexico gave half of it's territory in USA. -
Issue that upset southerners
Southerners were upset when fugitive slaves were assisted by northerners. They were upset because Slave holders were losing their PROPERTY. -

The book Uncle Tom's Cabin upset many southerners b ecause it told a story about a slave and it's master and showed the bad side of it. and how cruel and harsh slavery was. -
Civil War
The Civil War started in 1861 when 11 southern states suceded [called the confederate] from the nation due to agruments about the slavery issue. The Southern states supported slavery and the Noethern states[the Union] did not. Then that led to a war were many people died snd was the bloodiest war in America History.
