Instagram was one of the first social media sites that gave Facebook some competition. It is a site that allows you to share and create photos for others to see what you are doing. -
WeChat
WeChat launched in January of 2011. It is now one of the most world wide sites. It is a combination of many different social media sites. It is most popular in Asian countries. -
Snapchat
Snapchat launched later in 2011. Snapchat created the idea of stories. Stories are shared photos that only last a certain amount of time. Stories are now seen on many different social media sites. -
Vine
Vine was a new video hosting service. It was different from YouTube because it only allowed short videos. -
Tik Tok
Vine was bought by Twitter. The next closest thing to vine launched in 2017 and is very popular still today. Tik Tok is another short video social media site. It has over 800 million users worldwide. -
Social Media Users
Today there are over 3.8 billion social media users. To put that into perspective, about half of the world is a social media user.
