The American West
With the railroads to the West completed, the Civil War opened up areas prime for settlement and economic development. Both White's and African Americans care running to mine, ranch, and farm, and with the chinese railroad workers there, the diversity grew. But, as a result of this, the bison population was virtualy wiped-out, and the Native American inhabitants that lived there were forced to be put in reserves by the 1880's. In the 19'th sentry though, the myth of the Cowboy's appeared. -
California: For Health, Pleasure, and Residence
Around 1872, Charles Nordhoff, a journalist who traveled to California, created a guidebook, included in "California As I Saw It." It talked about California's fertile lands and small population. -

He veiwed the West as a charming and intriguing place to visit, and as a place to start anew. He desctibes how teh Wet was a plesent place and "There I was as free as freedom and as white as honesty." -

This era was important because it was the rise of industries and technology that completely altered the nation. This sparked new ideas for inventions and transportation that also affected the society we have today. Overall, the rise of industrial America was an influencal time period that shaped the nation as a whole. -
Teddy Bear Invented
The Teddy Bear was actually inspired by Theodore Roosevelts act on not shooting a bear. What happened was, Roosevelt was on a hunting trip and never was a single bear. What his guides decided to do was tie a black bear to a tree and suggest he shoot that, but because it was "unsportsmanlike," Roosevelt refused, and thus the Teddy Bear was made, originally being called "Teddy's Bear." -
Wright Brother's First Flight
During the time between 1867 and 1900, the Wright Brother's actually tested their first plane. The plane only stayed in the air for about 12 seconds on the first test, but the fact that it even stayed in the air urged the brother's to continue working on it. -
World War 1 Ends
World War I was finally over. This first global conflict had claimed from 9 million to 13 million lives and caused damage never seen before. Germany had formally surrendered on November 11, 1918, and all nations had agreed to stop fighting while the terms of peace were negotiated. -

In the United States, the Great Depression began soon after the stock market crash of October 1929, which sent Wall Street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors. Over the next several years, consumer spending and investment dropped, causing steep declines in industrial output and rising levels of unemployment as failing companies laid off workers. The Ginsbergs
The Ginsbergs owned a candy store on 169th Street and Grant Avenue. It was a hangout for gamblers and the unemployed. Ginsy's, as it was called, was a place for the unemployed to have job opportunites. Many people that went there considered it the place for gossip and optimisim. -

Harry Reece was a man who live during the Rise of Industrial America era. He first handedly experienced the growth of popularity in new inventions for transportation. His main form of transportation was usually a trolley.
