Great Persecution was the last and most severe persecution of Christians in the Roman Empire.Christianity was illegal and it was illegal to show in the public, which forced people to practice it as a secret. The emperors Diocletian, maximain, galerius, and constantius forced many christains to obey rules and religous practices. Many christains survived the purges, and attacks. -

Jesus of Nazareth is the foundation of christianity becuase many believe he is the incarnation or son of god. Jesus Founded the christain church and died by crucifixion. He then was resurrected The Nicene creed asserts that jesus will judge the living and the dead. -

Paul of Tarsus
A man named Saint Paul heard that there was a prophet named Jesus who claimed to be the messiah. He began to prosecute followers of jesus. He also demanded that they give up their new faith, but no matter what he did, more and more people became followers of Christ. Paul was traveling to Damascus, where belief in jesus had begun to grow. As he came closer to the city with his companions, he was struck by a light so bright that it blinded him. It was jesus telling him to go into the city. -

Great Fire of Rome
A fire erupts in Rome, spreading rapidly throughout the city. When the flames finally died out more than a week later, nearly two-thirds of Rome had been burnt to the ground. The emperor at the time, Nero used the fire as an opportunity to rebuild Rome in a more classic way. According to Roman historians, Nero blamed christians for the start of the fire. -

Perpetua
Perpetua was a chrstain noblewoman who, at the turn of the third century, lived with her husband, her son, and her slave. At this time, North Africa was the center of a vibrant christain community, and emperor Septimius Severus was determined to cripple christianity Among the first to be arrested were five new christains taking classes to prepare forbaptism, one of them was Perpetua. While Perpetua was in prison, her father begged her to say that she was not christain. -

Battle of Milvian Bridge
Battle took place between the Roman Emperor Constantine 1 and Maxentius. Constantine had a vision before the battle and a dream that led him to put a sing on the soldiers quoting he would win. He won the battle and started on the path that led him to the end the perscution of the christain people. Being very garteful to the christains, this led to constantine making the Edict of Milan. -

Edict of Milan
The edict of Milan was a letter singned by the Roman emperors Constantine and Licinius that proclaimed religious toleration in the Roman Empire Specifically Christianity. Constantine created the Edict of Milan becuase the christain sing helped him and his soldiers win a battle and he felt grateful. It began a new era of freedom from religious perscution for christains who had faced oppression from the Roman empire. -

Emperor Theodosius
Emperor Theososius issued the Edict of Theodosius, asking Nicene christianity to the official. He also granted the Christains to build a temple in Jerusalem. Also, he allowed the followers of the religion to relocate to different areas. He became a convert and helped to stop the persecutions.
