    He wasn't called "Jesus Christ" until after his death
    Christ was derived from the Greek word "Christos" which means Messiah in Hebrew. Messiah mean "the anointed one."
    After Jesus's death there were disturbances in a Jewish town caused by someone named "Christus."
    As Christians became more prominent, more persecutions were carried out
    Roman law stated that the punishment for rebellion was Crucifixion

    St. Paul was a very important figure in Christianity. As he shape the first generation of Christian and taught many.
    -St. Paul the Apostle was also know as Saul of Tarsus
    -He's considered one of the most important figures in Christianity after Jesus
    -Paul was born in the same city where Cleopatra and Marc Antony first met
    -Paul was tent maker due to his city's high production in goat hair cloth
    -St. Paul wrote more than half of the new testament in a span of 17 years.

    -Nero blamed the fire on the Christians
    -Due to the Urban decay of Rome, it burnt up easily
    -The fire burnt down 10 districts of Rome in 6 days

    Perpetua
    Saint Perpetua and Felicity were Christian Matyrs. She wrote the "Passion of Perpetua and Felicity", and journal covering her imprisonment and trial.
    -Perpetua died in Carthage on March 7th 203 by decapitation
    -She was put to death for religious convictions
    -Perpetua was a mother and only 22 when she died
    -Perpetua's name means "Lasting"
    -She was married but her husband is never mentioned

    This event was Diocletian's attempt to stomp out Christianity in Rome. Murdering many and burning scriptures, this edict against Christians is known as one of the bloodiest. END DATE: 04/30/311
    - Also known as the Diocletian Persecution
    - This was the last but most violent persecution in Rome
    - If Diocletian caught someone, they could be released if they offered a sacrifice
    -Diocletian retired in 305, but persecution continued
    -Christians would receive some mercy if they turned in Scriptures

    Constantine fought for his power as ruler. He ended up being very popular due to his morals, decisive mind, and his support of Christianity. END DATE 05/22/337 CE
    -Constantine established the edict of Milan making Christianity legal
    -He disbanded the Praetorian Guard in 312 CE
    -He earned the title of "Caesar" in the west
    -In a vision, Constantine was told to carry the cross into battle, he did so and reigned victorious
    -Constantine declared Byzantium the new capital but initially considered Troy

    The Battle of Milvian Bridge was a fought between Constantine and Maxentius. Constantine was fighting to become to sole ruler of Rome and the spread of Christianity.
    FACTS
    Constantine made all the soldiers paint crosses on their shield
    Constantine had a vision with a cross over the sun and the words "In this sign, prevail."
    The Milvian Bridge was made narrower to block Constantine's soldiers
    Due to the Bridge being smaller, retreat was a hard for Maxentius's army
    Maxentius ended up drowining.

    This was an agreement between Constantine and Licinius to establish religious toleration of all Religions in Rome.
    -Christianity ended up being the main religion of Rome by 320
    -Theodosius ended up making Christianity the main religion
    -The two emperors were in Milan to celebrate Constantine's sister's wedding
    -Milan is also know as Mediolanum
    -At this time, Constantine ruled the west part of the Empire while Licinius ruled the east. Constantine would grow to be the sole emperor of Rome.

    Emperor Theodosius
    Theodosius was able to establish peace between Rome, the Barbarians, and the Gothics. Not only that but he made Christianity the official religion of Rome. END DATE: 01/17/395
    -Theodosius made sure Paganism was suppressed
    -He was the last emperor to rule both east/west Rome
    -Only a certain type of Christianity was official, other sects were punished
    -Theodosius was publicly punished for attempting to avenge his murdered general
    -Theodosius granted friend and Bishop, Ambrose, a lot of power.
