The Great Persecution
The Great Persecution was headed by Nero after the great fire of Rome. The Christian portion of the city didn't burn so Nero used it as a scapegoat because he was the one that burned Rome so he could add his own infrastructure to the city. Nero's persecution killed thousand of Christians in horrible, brutal ways. -

Constantine the Great
During a civil war between different factions that ravaged Rome, one faction was led by a man named Constantine who sought to rule Rome. During this bloody civil war Constantine had to defend his position from a rival faction led by Maxentius. Before the battle began God sent a sign to Constantine that he would win through God. Constantine was victorious and he gave thanks to God by writing the edict of Milan. -

This was the battle that God predicted that Constantine the Great would win and when he did it inspired him to write the Edict of Milan which gave Christian people the freedom to worship freely. -

Edict of Milan
The Edict of Milan was written after the battle of Milvian Bridge which was won by Constantine the Great because God said he would under the symbol of the cross. After his God given victory Constantine had to do something about the persecution against the Christians that were going on at the time so he wrote the Edict of Milan. This document gave Christians complete religious freedom throughout Rome. -
