    Sails and Sailboats
    The sail was invented around 3000 B.C.E. in Mesopotamia. Papyrus was used instead of cloth because of its durability. This made water travel much quicker and allowed people to travel against the current of rivers and seas. Sailboats revolutionized trade and travel around the world. After the invention, global trade routes were created and have been used ever since. This created relations between countries that had never before socialized.

    The earliest known mechanical sawmill was created around 300 C.E. in Heirapolis, Asia Minor. It was a water powered stone mill that used a water wheel for power. Before the mill was invented, wood could only be cut and sawed by hand. This changed how the world built homes and other facilities. Before, majority of buildings were built from stone and mud.

    This war was fought from 1775-1783 between Great Britian and the 13 North American colonies. The war started because America declared their independence from Great Britian. This war revoluntionized the world because it created a powerful republic country and developed a sense of radical ideals. Many countries worried about the revolt and victory because it displayed the power of unity. The 13 colonies worked to form and establish the most powerful country in the world.

    In 1892 John Froelich invented the first single cylinder, gas powered tractor in Clayton County, Iowa. By 1920 the tractor had completely changed the agricultural work force. The U.S. became a world leading producer and could now compete globally. Most large and small scale farmers owned a tractor by the 1930's.

    Heinrich Hertz played a major role in the development of the first experimental broadcast which began in 1905-1906 and played music and talk radio. Commercially it started between 1920-1923. This revolutionized the world's ability to communcate with the public and also played a huge role in politics. President Warren G. Harding was the first president to be heard on a radio broadcast. Radio broadcast became the most influential form of advertisement during this era.

    The "Sputnik 1" was the first satellite launched. It was developed by the Soviet Union in 1957. Since then thousands have been launched into orbit. Satellites revoluntinized technology and its capibilities. Nearly all technology is controlled by satellites including communications, navigation, weather and research.
