    The British Empire was in severe debt from the Seven Years' War. To relieve the debt, the British Parliament turned to taxing the American Colonies with the Stamp Act of 1765. The colonists were outraged at the taxation without representation. This event was important in American history as the unfair taxation contributed to the outrage of the colonists, helping to spark the American Revolution.

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris of 1783 ended the American Revolutionary War. In the treaty, Britain officially recognized the independence of the colonies and also gave territory east of the Mississippi River to the United States of America. This event is important in American history as it marked the end of the Revolutionary War and also doubled the size of the United States of America.

    Tennis Court Oath
    On June 20th 1789, deputies of the Third Estate(National Assembly) gathered together in defiance of King Louis XVI's order to disperse. The deputies took an oath to not disband until a French constitution had been adopted. This oath is now called the Tennis Court Oath as they gathered at a tennis court. The oath is important as it showed the National Assembly's commitment to reshaping the social and political landscape of France.

    Storming of the Bastille
    On July 14th 1789, a Paris mob stormed the fortress Bastille in search of gunpowder and firearms. The Bastille contained over 30,000 pounds of gunpowder and was a symbol of the French Monarchy's tyranny. The mob also freed prisoners of the Bastille who were wrongfully arrested by the French Monarchy. The storming of Bastille was a key event in the starting of the French Revolution. Today July 14th is known as Bastille day in France.
