  • Treaty of Paris (ending French& Indian War)

    This is the document that ended the Seven Years War.
  • Stamp Act

    This was a tax that all colonists had to pay on every printed piece of paper they used. The money collected was used to help pay the cost of defending and protecting the American Frontier.
  • Townshend Acts

    These were a string of laws passed in 1767 by the Parliament of Great Britian that relates to the British colonies of North America. The purpose was to raise enough to pay the salaries of judges and governors.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    This was basically a street fight between patriots, who were throwing snow balls or stones, and british soldiers. Only several men were killed or wounded.
  • Tea Act

    This act imposed no new taxes. It was designed to help out the East India Company that had 18 million pounds of unsold tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Americans dressed as Indians dumped all the tea that was on the three ships into the ocean. This was a reaction to the Tea Act of 1773.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Quebec Act all lead up to this. The British have went to far.
  • First Continental Congress

    All 13 colonies sent a delegate to Philidelphia. Here they discussed responses to increased British oppression.
  • Declaration of Rights

    Delegates from the colonies met in Philidelphia to dicuss how to resolve problems with the British Government. In this document, they cite their oppositions with the Stamp Act, Townshend Act and Coercive Acts.
  • Lexington & Concord

    The first shots starting the Revolutionary War were at Lexington Massachussetts. British General Gage sent 700 troops to destroy guns and ammunition the colonists had stored in Concord. They also planned to arrest two of the leaders of government, Samuel Adams and John Hancock.

    The delegates met in Philadelphia met to make their next steps. They met with the Lexington & Concord battle fresh in their minds.

    This battle was over the Philidelphia land that the British wanted. When the British showed up, Washington realized he was outnumbered. Unfortunately, the Americans lost.

    This was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. 5,895 British and Hessian troops surrendered their arms.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    It was one of the last battles of the war. Lasting 20 days and ending with the British General Cornwallis surrendering.

    Clearly, this was the document ending the war between Britian and US. It states things such as the US to be free, established boundaries, and debts from both sides to be paid.
