a series of acts passed in response to the Boston Tea Party which took away many of the colonists’ rights. -

this document stated that the colonies had the right to form armies against the British. -
Olive Branch Petition
this was the final offer of peace with Britain as long as they addressed their grievances, Britain rejected this and declared that no further trade will occur with the colonies. -
Battle of Brandywine
the battle in which General Howe defeated Washington and took control of Philadelphia, then the capital of the US. As a result, the Continental Army had to retreat to Valley Forge. -
Battle of Saratoga
American militia surrounded the British and forced them to surrender, this prevented New England from being isolated and is seen as a major turning point in the war because France joined on the American's side after this. -
Valley Forge
After Howe captured the capital city, Washington and his army retreat up north where the suffer a terrible winter accompanied by massive loss of life.
