The French and Indian War
Great Britain fought against the Indians of North America and the French. They argued over Canadian territory. The british won the war and the right to keep Canada. -
The Sugar Act
There was a 3 cent tax on all refined sugar and the taxes on coffee and wine were increased. It also banned shipping rum and wine. This was the first instance that the colonies didn’t agree on, or have their consent. -
The Stamp Act
This act requires that all newspapers, pamphlets, and other public or legal documents have a stamp, or a seal. These stamps costs money. -

The colonists were outraged. This was their first step towards forming their own government and getting out of the british’ rulings. -
Townshend Acts
Laws were passed where taxes were placed on glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea. The colonists revolted and the British took all of the taxes off except from tea. -

Five American colonists were shot by British troops on MArch 5, 1770. -
The Boston Tea Party
The colonists called the “Sons of Liberty” dressed as Native Americans and dumped the tea into the Boston harbor that was on the British ships. It was a request for Liberty. -
The First Continental Congress
This event is held on September 5, 1774 at the Carpenters’ Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The delegates talk about issues relating to liberty and rights of the colonies. The colonies work together instead of separate colonies. They are also fighting for freedom and independence. -
The Battles of Lexington and Concord
On April 19th, 1775, the first gunshots were fired by British troops. The Americans had stockpiled weapons and waited for the “red coats”. NO ONE knows who fired the first shot. -
The Second Continental Congress
In 1775, the revolutionary war and started. Things were going bad and the armed forces were not organized. The Continental Congress created a continental army and made George Washington commander in chief. -

The first president of the United states that fought for the British in the French and the Indian war. He was named president of the constitutional convention. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
On June 16th, 1775, the Americans occupied breeds hill in charlestown to protect the shipyard by Boston. The British attacked the next day and the americans fied until they were out of ammunition. -
Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" published
He was a soldier and a writer. He published “Common Sense” that was to inform the colonists about British Parliament. And Later, he writes about Independence. -
The British evacuate Boston
William Howe hopes that by using the British ships in the Boston harbor, he can destroy the Americans position. But, a storm came giving the Americans time to set up their artillery and complete fornications. -
Richard Henry Lee proposes Independence
A strong believer in Independence and wrote the short resolution that started the unstoppable train in motion. -
Declaration of Independence adopted
On July 4, 1776, the declaration was adopted and signed. It declares Independence for the colonies. It was written by Thomas Jefferson. -
