    The British and French fought each other in North America. The British won and gained a lot of land, but also a lot of debt. Because of this they taxed the colonists which upset them creating tension that would lead to the revolution.

    The Stamp Act was a stamp that was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765. This act required them to pay tax on every piece of printed paper they used, Ship's papers, legal documents, etc. The money that came from the Stamp Act was used to help pay the costs of defending/protecting the American frontier near the Appalachian Mountains.

    The Quartering Act required colonial governments to provide and pay for feeding and sheltering troops stationed in their colony. American colonists resented because they were being taxed by the colonial governments to pay for provisions and barracks for the army. Many American colonists saw that the Act was a way to tax them without their consent, Many suspected that the real purpose of the Quartering Act was that they were keeping a small standing army in America.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill started on June 17, 1775, when the American Patriots were defeated by the British Army. The British army secured gunpowder and cannon for an uprising, On April 19 it came to a head in the Massachusetts towns of Lexington and Concord. The British Commander - in - Cheif General Sir Thomas was under pressure to quash the colonial rebellion.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge
    In 1777, Washington decided to have his troops winter at Valley Forge, only a day's march from the city. The army listed 2,898 men as unfit for duty due to a lack of clothing. Dec 19th, 1777, 12,00 soldiers, 400 women, and children marched into Valley Forge and began to build which soon became the fourth largest city in the colonies at that time. The city lacked supplies and hunger which soon led to diseases that killed nearly 2,000 people during the encampment.
