French & Indian War
The Treaty of Paris was signed after 9 years of fighting between the French and Great Britain. This war was expensive and it was decided that the American Colonists would foot the bill through new taxes. -
Sugar Act
British placed extra taxes on sugar. -
Stamp Act
Like the sugar act the stamp act placed taxes on stamps. Colonists began showing their frustration by having riots during which they burned stamps among other things. -
Quartering Act & Townshend Acts
The Quartering Act required colonists to house and feed British soldiers. The Townshend Act was put into place to try to force colonists to remain under British control. -
Boston Massacre
A group of colonists were harassing British soldiers when a misunderstanding occurred and soldiers opened fire on the group of colonists. This misunderstanding resulted in 5 people dying. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists snuck on board a British ship carrying supplies; it is said that they were dressed as Indians and that they threw barrel after barrel of tea into the harbor to protest the tax on tea. -
Intolerable Acts
Angry over the Boston Tea Party four new "Acts" were put into place hoping to make the colonists remember who was boss and hopefully isolate Boston from the other colonies. To learn more about these acts click the following link;
