Boston Massacre
Rowdy rioters were shot at by Red Coats. 5 people were killed. With the help of propaganda, the toll was thought to be much greater, so the event was thought to be a lot worse. -
Tea Act
Tax on tea, a huge import for the colonies. -
Boston Tea Party
A group of men disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians, boarded ships and tossed 342 chests of tea overboard -
Coercive / Intolerable Acts
Took away Massachusetts self-government and historic rights. These acts include the Tea Act and the Stamp Act -

Group of delegates met as a political body to represent American interests and challenge British control. -
Common Sense by Thomas Paine
Tried to convince the colonies to become Patriots and fight against the British. It explained, with reason, why the colonists should change their opinion. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
First battles of the Revolutionary War. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Battle. British won. This gave the colonists confidence that even though they lost this battle, they could still win the war. -
Olive Branch Petition
Colonists trying to make peace with the British, but still tell them they want to be on their own. -
2nd Continental Congress
Second meeting where the delegates formed the Continenal Army, sent the Olive Branch Petition, and formally declared themselves an independent country -
Townshend Act
Taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea imported into the colonies. This was in effort to cut the cost of imperial expensices in the colonies. -
Declaration of Independence
On this date the Declaration was signed. The United States declared itself a new, independent country. -
Battle of Long Island
British victory. Movtive:to seize New York. Washington's defeat could have caused him to surrender, but his movitive was so strong, he didn't. -
Battle of Trenton and Princeton
Washington and his army crossed the Delaware. Rebels won 2 crutial battles. These battles showed Britain that the Rebels had some control. -
Battle of Saratoga
Turning point in the Revolution. This victory for the rebels showed the French that the rebels needed some recognition, and the French entered the war as their ally. -
Winter at Valley Forge
Washington moved his troops to safety for the winter to Valley Forge, which was near British occupied Virginia. This was so he could keep an eye on with the Red Coats were doing. The Rebels were very low on supplies (food, blankets, and clothing). -
Battle of Yorktown
Last major engagment of the American Revolution. British VS Rebels and French. Cornwallis surrendered (Britain), ended the British fighting in the south. -
Treaty of Paris
Ended the war. Freed the America from the British
