  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The British and French fought over land in the Ohio river valley from 1754-1763. The French and Indians had sided against the British. Commanders such as James Wolfe eventually won in 1763 and the Ohio river valley was gained. Shortly afterward Pontiac's rebellion occured as well as the Proclamation of 1763. These events ultimatly led to the Revolutionary war.

    This law prohibited colonists from crossing into the rich lands od the Ohio river valley. This upset many colonists.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act placed a tax on items such as stamps, dice, and papers. The colonists found this act extremely unfair.This act was later repealed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A group of colonists were harassing a group of soldiers when someone fired into the crowd. When the panic ended 5 people lay dead.

    Tea Act
    This act placed a tax on all tea imported into the colonies. This led to unrest among the colonies and the Boston Tea Party.

    These were a series of laws sent to punish the colonists. These laws sparked the revolution to come.

    On this day the first battle of the Revolutionary war began. The fight was over munitions held by the colonial militia against the redcoats.

    Battle of Princeton
    General George Washington led his men to the city of Princeton to combat British General Cornwallis's men while he was still recovering from an earlier battle. This was one of the few early victories for the colonies.

    In 1776 in Philedelphia the Continental Congress approved of a Declaration of Independece written by Thomas Jefferson. The purpose of the Declaration was to tell George III why the colonies were breaking away from Britian. It officially made the colonies seperate from Britian.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    On this day General John Burgoyne surrendered to the continental army after the battle of Saratoga. He had been short on troops because General William Howe had neglected to arrive at the location on time allowing the colonists to overwhelm Burgoyne. This turning point battle led to the cooperation of the Frenchman Marquis Lafayette to lend French support to the colonists.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    General Cornwallis had stationed himself in Yorktown when the colonial army and their French allies attacked with full force. The battle lasted several weeks until in early October Cornwallis surrendered to the colonial army. The war was over.
