A battle that the British ultimately won but suffered lots more casualties than the colonists and was a moral victory for the colonists. -

Was a final attempt to avoid a full on war with the British, and was a petition sent to the British and was adopted by the 2nd continental congress. Theletter prved to have no effect however. -
Declaration of Independence
A formal document written by the 2nd continental congress that officially stated the thirteen colonies were to be no longer part of the British empire. -

Treaty of Paris 1783
The treaty officially terminating all political ties between the British and the Colonists, and officially granting the United States their indepeendence.
