The Magyar Egyetemisták és Főiskolások Szövetsége was established and they wrote down the most important revolutionary demands of the youth. -
The beginnings
Officially the first day of the revolution, it started with peaceful student protests at Debrecen and Budapest. -
Destruction of the Stalin statue
Young group of workers destroyed the statue of Stalin which was the symbol of dictatorship in the country. -
Resistance centers
Resistance centers started to form on this day, the first ones were in the Corvin Close, at Széna Square and Csillaghegy. -
Chain fire in front of the parliament
The ÁVH opened fire to the protestors on the Kossuth square from the building of Agricultural Ministery. -
Withdrawal of the Soviet troops
The Soviet troops withdrew due to the overpower and successes of the revolutionary forces. It seemed that the revolution won. -
Release of Mindszenty József
Mindszenty József the archbishop of Esztergom, who openly supported the revolution was imprisoned, but the revolutionists demanded his release, which happened on the 30th of October. -
Independece of Hungary
On the 1st of November Nagy Imre denounced the Warsaw pact and declared the neutrality of Hungary. -
Soviet occupation
In the operation whirlwind on the 4th of November the Red Army started to occupy the Hungarian capital with great forces. It was followed by freedomfight till the 11th of November. -
Arrest of Nagy Imre
Nagy Imre was arrested, because he became one of the main leading characters of the revolution against the Soviet Union
