Stamp Act of 1765
A tax set on stamps to pay for English soldiers. -
Townshend Taxes and the Boston Massacre
Mass taxes on 50 different items for colonists. Confrontation between 60 colonists and 8 soldiers. 11 colonists were killed or injured. -
The Boston Tea Party
A revolt where colonists dressed up as Mohawk Indians and dumped 15,000 lbs. of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
The Intolerable Acts
A set of acts that stripped Massachusetts of self gov't and historic rights. -
The First Continental Congress
The first Continental Congress met in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, from September 5, to October 26, 1774 -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
Also referred to as "the battle heard from 'around the world". At concord the British found out about a secret stash and tried to find it but then found out the it was empty. -
Second Continental Congress
George Washington was the commanding general. The colonist were getting tired of the Red coats atttacking them. They colonistst needed another way to depend themselves. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Known as the bloodiest war. 1000 British red coats were killed and only about 400 colonist were killed. A famous quote is "Don't fire until you can see the whites of their eyes". -
Thomas Paine's Common Sense
Written for the common people. Was the first document that asked for Independence from Britain. -
Declaration of Independence
Was the official document saying that America was no longer apart of British rule. It was written by Thomas Jefferson, and had 56 delegates sign it. -
Battles of Saratoga
There was 2 main battles, Freeman's farm and Bemis Heights. -
Battle at Yorktown
The colonist won this war against the British because they had help from the French. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty was the ending of the Revolutionary war.
