  • Sugar Act

    The sugar act reduced the price of molasses from six pence to three pence but the tax was heavily enforced. Rum and other goods had an almost immediate decline. The tax affected the colonial economy greatly. The number of British goods that were bought was lowered. The British liked the tax because it was one of the ones to work.

    Quartering Act

    Colonists were to provide barracks for British soldiers. If the barracks were too small then the soldiers would go to inns, livery stable, houses of wine, etc. This outraged the colonists. This led to brawls and the Boston Massacre. Britains intent was not to have all of these problems.

    The Stamp Act taxed people on papers. Nothing legal could be written unless it was on specially stamped paper. Even newspapers and playing cards were to have the stamped paper. The colonists were outraged. They erupted in boycotts and harassing tax collectors. It was too much for the British and the tax was repealed.

There were boycotts, harassing tax collectors, and nonimportation. The British thought it was going to be good but they turned upset when it didn't work.
