  • Proclomation of 1763

    Proclomation of 1763
    Established in order to disable westward expansion past the Appalachians. Colonistis became angry because they felt like they had earned the ability to settle wherever they please. They disobeyed British rule and created more westward settlements. The British began imposing different attempts to tax the colonists afterwards.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act put taxes on goods imported into the colonies such as; sugar,wine, coffee, and so on. The colonists were angered by this and thought that since they had no representatives in parliament, they should not be taxed. They started smuggling goods and refusing to pay. The British, in turn, created the Stamp Act.

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act placed a tax on any printed materials produced and sold by the colony. This forced colonists to put stamps on all printed papers or documents. The colonists organized a resistance and ultimately violent protest. They petitioned parliament to get the Stamp Act repealed, In 1766 it was repealed and replaced with the Declaratory Act.

    Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act gave Great Britain total sovereignty and authority to pass any law over the American Colonies. The colonists initial reaction wasn't worrysome but as time passed they became furious. The British Government then created the Townshend Act.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act put a duty tax on any imported goods. The colonists were infuriated and their taunting of the Red Coats was the cause of the Boston Massacre. The British Government repealed many of these taxes yet, still tried taxing without consent from the colonists.
