  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Was created to make a profit from the West Indian and North American sugar trade for Great Britain. The colonists were angry with this and started boycotting and smuggling sugar products from other countries because they felt it went against their rights. The British Government repealed the act in 1766 because British merchants were being robbed because of the boycotts.   • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act of 1765 taxed all printed products in America so to help pay off the debt the British got in during the French and Indian War.   • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Colonial assemblies were directed to provide housing, food, and drink for the soldiers in the area as to cut the costs of the military in America. Most colonists agreed to provide though some saw it as taxing. The British Government was supposed to modify the act every two years and the act was repealed in 1770.   • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    These acts suspended New York legislatures until they complied with the quartering act, imposed import duties on tea, lead, paper, paint, and glass, allowed tea to be imported to colonies free of tax and restricted the customs service in the colonies. Colonists protested, boycotted, and got extremely violent which lead to the Boston Massacre. The British Government repealed this act in 1770.   • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This act was made to benefit the East India Company to give them the right to sell tea in America. Colonists said "no taxation without representation" and revolted which led to the Boston Tea Party. The British Government repealed this act in 1778.
