John Moore sues Regents U of Calif John Moore visited the UCLA Medical Center in 1976 where he was diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer. Hairy-cell leukemia is a slow growing cancer where the bone marrow makes too many lymphocytes, a white blood cell that fights infection. Moore's surgeon generated a cell line from his spleen and patented it for commercial efforts. -
