At 7:59 am, American Airlines Flight 11 departs from Boston’s Logan International Airport to Los Angeles. United Airlines Flight 175 takes off from Boston at 8:14 am; it is also headed to Los Angeles. Also, at 8:20 am, American Airlines Flight 77 takes off from Dulles International Airport outside of Washington, D.C and was heading towards Los Angeles. -
Distress calls from planes
At 8:19 am, flight attendants aboard Flight 11 alert ground personnel that the plane has been hijacked; American Airlines notifies the FBI. -
The Fourth Hijacked Plane
At 8:41 am, United Airlines Flight 93 takes off from Newark International Airport and was headed towards San Francisco. -

President Bush is informed of the Attacks
At 8:50, President George W. Bush is informed of the events by the White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card during his visit to an elementary school in Sarasota, Florida. -
The Second and Third Crash
At 9:03 am, United Airlines Flight 175 crash into floors 75-85 of the WTC’s South Tower, and at 9:37 am, Flight 77 crash into the western side of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. -
All Flights Grounded
At 9:42 am, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounds all flights in or over the United States. About 4,500 planes are guided to airports in Canada and the United States over the next two-and-a-half hours. -
South Tower Falls
The South Tower of the World Trade Center collapses at 9:59 am which is 56 minutes after United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into it. -
Last Crash
At 10:07 am, Flight 93 crash into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Apparently, the plane disappeared once it crashed. -

The World Trade Center’s North Tower collapses at 10:28 am, 102 minutes after being struck by Flight 11. -
Bush Addresses the Nation
At 8:30 pm, President Bush addresses the nation by calling the attacks “evil, despicable acts of terror” and declaring that America and allies would “stand together to win the war against terrorism." -
Bush's Bulllhorn Speech
Bush spoke at Ground Zero three days after 9/11. He stood alongside one of the fire fighters, gave a speech with a bullhorn, and in this speech, lies his famous words: "I can hear you!...The rest of the world hears you! And the people – and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon." -
