Young boys were appointed as messenger as a source of education. At the court he learned about many famous explorers and the most important information about navigating ships.

At the age of seventeen in 1501 he entered the University of Erfurt. The young student received his Bachelor's degree after just one year in 1502. Three years later in 1505 he received a Master's degree.
