  • TEACCH established

    Eric Schopler created the Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) at the University of North Carolina, with the purpose to provide training for individuals with Autism.
  • Autism added to DSM-III

    Autism was added to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Third Edition as "infantile autism", which allowed doctors to accurately diagnose Autism as different from Schizophrenia
  • "Autistic Disorder"

    The term "Autistic Disorder" replaced "Infantile Autism" and a more detailed explanation of the diagnosis was presented.
