  • The Start of the Red Scare

    The Red Scare started with the end of World War 2 and the beginning of the Cold War. The alliance between the U.S. and the Soviet Union started to fall apart and communism was growing in the east. President Truman issued the Loyalty Order which "mandated that all federal employees be analyzed to determine whether they were sufficiently loyal to the government."
  • McCarthyism Begins

    U.S. Senator, Joseph McCarthy, claims in a speech to have "a list of employees of the U.S. Department of State who were loyal to the Soviet Union." With this, he called for investigations into the Department of State, CIA, and other government agencies.
  • Joseph Stalin Dies

    The Leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin, dies due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
  • The McCarthy Hearings

    The McCarthy hearings were televised hearings that investigated alleged communist activity within the U.S. army. These hearings lead to the ultimate end of the Red Scare
  • The End of the Red Scare

    The relationship between the U.S. and the Soviet Union gets better and the Supreme Court makes a series of rulings that helped bring an end to the Red Scare
