Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation (CAR)
The Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation was established on the 2nd of September 1991 by the Commonwealth Parliament. Incorporating the Aboriginal culture and respect, the Council's purpose was to reconcile Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to the western Australian community. -
Redfern Park Address
On December 10th, 1992 Paul Keating delivered a speech in Redfern Park on Indigenous issues. Redfern is an inner city suburb in Sydney with a high Aboriginal Population. -
Bringing them Home Report
1997- The report is a tribute to the struggles and hardships endured by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders that were effected by forced removal from or of their families. It acknowledges their strength and the wrongdoing and injustice that hey dealt with . -
• Attorney General establishes inquiry into the separation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families
The National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families was established on the 11th of May, 1995 by the Federal Attorney General. The inquiry was created in response to the efforts of significant Indigenous agencies who were concerned of the impact history had on society at the time. They were worried that it would override the recognition of the victims and families of the children of the Stolen Generations. -
The Sea of Hands
The first Sea of Hands event was held on October 12th 1997 in front of the Parliament house in Canberra, It has become a symbol of Peoples Movement In Reconciliation. The Sea of Hands started as a protest against Howard Government's proposed amendments to the Native Title Act of 1993. It developed into a movement and later a campaign. Right now there are over 300,000 signatures on the plastic sea of hands which has helped in its development to reach other cities. -
Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk
On May 28, 2000, more than 300,000 people walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge in support of Indigenous Australians and reconciliation. Held the day after Corroboree 2000, the walk attracted Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and other Australians of all ages and from many different backgrounds including politicians, public figures, families and members of the Stolen Generation, who streamed across the Harbour Bridge for five hours. -
Apology to the Stolen Generation
The Apology to the Stolen Generation was a 4 minutes speech said by Prime Minister for Australia, Kevin Rudd on February 13th 2008, in the speech he apologized for the Aboriginal's " Profound grief, suffering and lost". -
Corroboree 2000
Corroboree 2000, is all about sharing the future and is the theme for National Reconciliation. Reconciliation week was framed by two significant dates in Australia's history which had best symbolized the hopes and aims for reconciliation.
