Kindergarten
I entered kindergarten knowing my letters and their sounds because of my mom. I learned how to read in kindergarten. -
Tricked into reading a chapter book
I was not a strong reader and I was intimidated by chapter books. My mom tricked me by having me read a passage from a chapter book without me knowing it. I remember being proud and gaining confidence. -
Reading with my mom
My mom read with me throughout elementary school but I did not read on my own for enjoyment. -
Entering Middle School
I left elementary school reading at or just below grade level. I did not read for enjoyments -
Reading Glasses
I saw an eye doctor and found out my eyes jump around when I read and I was given reading glasses to help with it. -
Glasses Helped
The glasses helped and my reading improved in middle school. -
High School
I rarely wore the glasses in high school. I got good grades in high school but i did as little reading as possible and often used clip notes. -
The Firm
I read "The Firm" by John Grisham my senior year in high school and this was the first time I can remember that I really enjoyed reading a book. -
UNLV
When I was at UNLV I didn't read for enjoyment and I avoided taking a literature course. -
Literature Course
I took a literature course at CSN and I enjoyed it. One book we read "All Our Names" by Dinaw Mengestu and it was a great book. -
Reading for Enjoyment
I began reading for enjoyment in my free time. I prefer to read non-fiction books. "Flash Boys" by Michael Lewis is a book I really enjoyed. -
My Son
My son is 19 months old and I try to read to him every night. I want him to find the love for reading that I didn't have until I was older.
