    Books Books Books!
I absolutely loved books, even before I could read. My mom used to love reading before she got extremely busy. So we had bookshelves all over the house full of books. No one really read them anymore, but I loved looking through them and trying to make up stories whenever I was bored.
  • HOOKED ON READING

    HOOKED ON READING
Learning to read was the STRUGGLE. I had a speech lasp so understanding my verbal language was extremely hard for teachers at this time and it didn't help my frustration level! I would also see the 'hooked on phonics' commercials and thought that's what I needed in order to actually read. It was struggle but I was reading before 2nd grade.
  • Reading or Playing

    Reading or Playing
I realized I enjoyed playing with books more than I actually enjoyed reading them! I liked books with stickers or even books with colorful pictures so I could just stare at them and try to trace them.

    Maybe I did like Reading!
Around the fifth grade, I found Junie B. Jones series. It was so interesting and I really loved the characters and plot. The books were short with pictures, it helped me like reading.
  • Read or DIE.

    Read or DIE.
In middle school, I'd rather do anything than read!!! During my 6th grade year I told my teacher how much I hated reading. She suggested that I needed to read every book I picked up to pg 20. If I still don't like it and can put it down, then do it. I felt like she wasn't trying to trick me into reading for any reasons other than pure joy. So, I started to read for fun. That year I was awarded the Reading Award my 6th grade year in the entire middle school. I was so proud of this award!!
  • Child Called It

    Child Called It
During high school I started reading books that held more meaning to me. I advance from books like Junie B. Jones to biographies and books where the main character has diseases/disorders, I read books about child abuse, and school shootings. After reading the book ' A Child Called It' I knew I wanted to work with children. I learned not everyone is good and I'm so lucky I learned that within a book instead of real life experiences.
  • Teaching It!

    Teaching It!
During a practicum I had the chance to help a class with reading! It was an awesome opportunity and the group I had were just overjoyed I was there. This created a fun opportunity for reading.

    Wonder
Wonder!! This book changed me!! I did a whole curriculum for a year off this book for one of my classes. It was challenging but I learned that books hold GREAT lessons for school! Especially, this one.
  • Reading Methods

    Reading Methods
During a class, I had to read a bunch of storybooks! The project really made me enjoy reading storybooks and reading it in a way to make it interesting to students. I realized that reading it straight through is not as fun as commenting on pictures and trying to read it in certain voices.
  • MAKE IT FUN!

    MAKE IT FUN!
The more I learn about reading the more I learn the importance of making it fun. When reading is fun, students are more interested and their schemas grow!
