West Charleston had free events for children 6 years old and above. My mom would take me every weekend so that I could go to these events. Usually it'd be story time, or a play, or acting. I started going at the age of 6. -

1st Grade Reading Log
Having a reading log had a major affect on me. The person with the most readings in a week got the chance to get a prize out of a treasure chest. I'm very competitive and I also wanted to be on top so I read as much as I could. -
Translator Device
Having a Translator Device helped me a lot with my reading skills. I was able to read and define words in English as well as in Spanish.I used this a lot in catechism. -
Bills
Since my parents spoke very little Spanish, at a very young age they had me translate their bills and very important letters that came in the mail. -
Twilight
A trend that was going on while I was in 5th grade, was the Twilight series. The Twilight book's really help me read above my grade level. I was really interested in the series. -
Teen Magazines
Teen Magazines also influenced my attitude towards reading. I loved being caught up with celebrities and the latest trends. -
Evaluating Song Lyrics
In 6th grade, my teacher gave us a song to evaluate. This completely changed my view on songs. I had to research and find meaning to songs. The song that I was assigned was Break even by The Script. This was such an amazing project I enjoyed this project so much. -
Pursuit of Happiness
Recently my English 223 class influenced my attitude towards reading by being more open to new ideas. This course opened my mind to new ideas of happiness and beliefs. This gave reading a whole new meaning. Reading with a spiritual purpose.
