First Grade
The first reading experience that I can remember was in first grade, we were learning how to read and we had to voluntarily go up an read to the teacher, if you did not do it voluntarily you would have to stay during recess to read. That was me, I remember I was really scared, but after I read the first story, I realized that reading was not scary at all. -
Chapter books
The next encounter that I remember was in 7th grade, when in my Spanish class we were assigned to read the alchemist, and not only did I fall in love with the book, but I also feel in love with chapter books. -
No English
In 2008 I moved to the United States with no knowledge of the English language, since I did not know the language I would always go to the library and talked to the librarian (who spoke Spanish), she would point out books for me to read in Spanish. She also gave out rewards to those who read a certain amount of books or minutes, and I loved that! -
Learning English
During the course of 8th grade, I had the pleasure of having Katrina Shaw-Valencia as my ELL teacher, and I still to this day love her, and I talk to her. I had her for three straight periods, and I she taught me how to speak English, by reading us read aloud and nursery rhymes. -
9th Grade
When I entered high school, I still read quite a lot, and I began reading bigger chapter books, and for the first time I read a whole book series. It was called Chemical Romance, it had a total of 4 books. To me this was a really large accomplishment. -
Big Influence
One of my biggest influences to reading was then Junior and Senior year teacher Ms. Gyson. She had such a tremendous love for books, and she would read to us as if we were little kids, and she taught me that; you can enjoy a book at any age and you can share your enjoyment by reading to others. -
Working in Kindergarten
In 2016 I started working in an Elementary school. I mostly spend most of my day in the kindergarten classroom helping out. I encountered myself listening to the nursery rhymes and read aloud that taught me English and I then understood the importance of reading to ones kids. -
Reading to Dogs
In 2017 I took part in an event in which we took our students to a shelter to read to dogs. This helped the students to practice their reading, and the dogs of course loved the company and being read too. It was AMAZING! -
My Daughter
Last year, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She is now my biggest reason to read, I want her to grow up with the same love for books as I the love that I have. I read to her every day and I am proud to say that she loves it. -
Alondra Reads Books
This is my daughter "reading" her books, and I could not be any prouder.
