Reading history

  • Winnie-the-pooh

    Winnie-the-pooh
Before I was born, my family decided to make my room Winnie The Pooh themed, and they would have all the different stories on a small bookshelf. My mother would always read to me before I went to sleep, and I would sleep right away. As an adult, I listen to the audiobook whenever I can't sleep. Reading has always brought me peace.
  • Mi Jardin

    Mi Jardin
My first language is Spanish, and I started reading in preschool. Mi jardín is the book all Venezuelans will use when learning how to read and shaped most of our childhoods.
  • Book Club

    Book Club
Ever since I started reading, my family began a book club to support my reading journey. Having a book club allowed me to explore different types of lectures, from children's books all the way to finance education.
  • iPod Touch

    iPod Touch
I got my first iPod Touch very young and started using it for games until I found out I could read anywhere with it. Knowing I could always have pdfs and the App for Books available was impressive.
  • Wattpad

    Wattpad
Although Wattpad is viewed as a teenager fanfic site, I found my passion in reading due to the support of an online community and reading about things that interested me. Most of the teenage authors I started reading when I was a preteen are now the creators of award-winning novels. I was reading a different book every week.
  • Glee

    Glee
As untraditional as it sounds, I learned how to write in English by watching Glee. Glee was my favorite show, and I used to watch it with Spanish subtitles when it was first airing. One day I decided to stop watching it with Spanish subtitles and switch them to English Closed Captions. Then, I could place the word in the written version and improve my vocabulary and writing skills.
  • Book Logs

    Book Logs
Book logs have always been my favorite. Being the competitive person I am, I always wanted to have my sheet full, and I would challenge myself to move on to more complex books.
  • Scholastic Fair

    Scholastic Fair
I had never experienced a scholastic book fair until middle school. My mother could never afford to give me money to buy new things, so my teacher used to let me go before anyone else so I could play with the sample items and read the magazines before the entire class went.
  • WIDA Test

    WIDA Test
Knowing English as a second language made life a little busier, including taking the WIDA test every year until I tested out. Everyone I knew would fail the test because we would spend 8 hours in a computer lab reading. One day I decided it would be my last year taking the test, and I sat down and read things repeatedly until I made sure I knew the correct answer.
  • The Time Traveler’s Wife

    The Time Traveler’s Wife
The Time Traveler's Wife made me find my favorite book genre: romance. I currently own more than 147 physical copies of romance books in my room.
