Being read to before bed
Most nights before bed, my mom or my sisters would read a book to me. My favorite books to have read to me were Where the Wild Things Are and We're Going On a Bear Hunt. I loved being read to and I think it started my love for books. -
Checking out books from the school library
I rented as many books as I could from the school library. I would spend hours reading them to myself and others. Before bed, I would read to my mother. I also loved the school's book fair where I got to purchase books to read anytime at my house. -
The Hunger Games Trilogy
My family purchased the hunger games trilogy to read before the movies came out. As soon as I read them, I because obsessed. I read every book more than once and marked quotes that I loved. This trilogy introduced me to the young adult genre of books that I still love. -
The Divergent Series
The next series that I loved growing up was the Divergent Series. As soon as I got the next book in the series I read the entire book in one day. I was obsessed with this series just like I was obsessed with The Hunger Games -
The Maze Runner Series
The next set of books I loved was The Maze Runner Series. I obsessively read these books as well. I loved to read and spent most of my time reading these three series' over and over. -
Getting my own library card
Finally, I got my own library card! I loved going to the library and renting multiple books. Now I was able to rent any young adult or fantasy book I wanted. -
Autobiographies & Biographies
Going to the library introduced me to the genre of autobiographies. I read multiple over the span of the year. I loved learning about influential people. This was my first venture into the world of nonfiction books. My favorite person to read about was Frida Kahlo. -
Barnes and Noble
By now, most of my family members knew I loved to read. This led to multiple gift cards for Barnes and Noble gifted to me for my birthday. I researched books I wanted to read before my trips to Barnes and Noble. I bought as many books as I could with my gift cards. -
Red, White, and Royal Blue
I took a little break from reading but then I found the book Red, White, and Royal Blue. This book re-sparked my love for reading. I have read it at least five times and it is now my favorite book. -
e-books
I now mostly read e-books. I love how accessible they are in that I can read anywhere and at any time without having to carry around a big book.
