Early Childhood
I would say I first learned how to read around age 3 in 1991. I started off reading by learning letter names and letter sounds. My parents said they always did this with me as well as teaching me my colors. -
Second Grade
In second grade is where I started to develop excellent reading skills and I came to find out that I really enjoyed reading. I remember going to the library and I was an advanced reader in second grade my first chapter book that I checked out on my own was Bunnicula. -
Middle School
When I got to middle school I did not enjoy reading at all! I kept reading in my personal time but as for school I did not like reading. -
Third Grade
During third grade was when I really started reading books on my own my dad would take us to the library and let us check out tones of books. -
Fifth Grade
My love for chapter books began in fifth grade we read the book hatchet. Hatchet was a great book I was interested to find out what happened in hatchet that I would take the book home and in my spare time read ahead of the class. -
Personal Time
In my personal time I would read the book series called Amber Brown. I was interested in Amber Brown because she was a girl in about third or fourth grade. Reading can be hard for those who do not like it, but I could relate to Amber Brown because of the age range so I think that made it more interesting for me. -
High School/Ninth Grade
Even though I lost my passion for reading in middle school, it came back my first year of high school. I was a good student so I was placed in honors English. The first book we read was Lord of the Flies. This book brought my excitement back. This book was action packed and once again I read ahead of the class because I wanted to know what happened. -
Enjoyment
I really enjoyed reading. My dad was big on academics! I think that made my enjoyment for reading begin early. . My younger childhood reading was great! I lost that enjoyment when I had teachers who were not passionate about reading. When I did have teachers who were passionate about reading is made my experience great! I think how we teach students do affect them. Reading excites me because I am always eager to know what happens. -
Kindergarten
In kindergarten the first book I read was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. I thought this was the greatest book ever it taught us letters and we even sang a song to it. My teacher had the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree and we were able to put the letters on the tree. -
High School
During high school is when I really found my passion for English. When I was finish with my core English classes I took my electives for English/reading. We read George Orwell 1984, Shakespeare, and so much more! I had a teacher who was very passionate about reading. If we were reading a book and the class was not interested he would make the book more interesting. His passion inspired me to read more.
