Library Story time
As a child I went to the weekly story time. This really got me interesting in reading. It was my favorite part of the week. -
Community circle
Sharing with pictures and words before knowing how to read. This taught a lot of confidence. -
Reading Circle
Engaging with other students that helps get confident with reading skills. -
The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree was the first book I read by myself. I read this book over and over. I shared this book with my own children, they did not share the same enthusiasm I had for it when I was little. -
Book Reports
Book reports taught a lot of useful concepts all in one project. I enjoyed book reports because it showed true comprehension of the book. There was also a lot writing included in the book reports. -
Meet Me Letters
One of my favorite assignments was Meet Me letters. You wrote your own biography about yourself. Then the letters were handed out at random and another classmate read it aloud to the class. Then the class had to guess which student they thought it belonged to. So much fun and very engaging. -
Debate
Debate included a lot of research and reading. If I was going to stand up for a topic I wanted to make sure I knew everything about it. In high school I read a lot and most of it was for debate. -
9/11 Attack/ Terrorism
After the 9/11 attack there were a lot of talks and assignments that circled this single event. I also remember reading the news papers that came out with the details of the attack. -
News Stories
After high school I read a lot of news stories to keep up to date on events in my community and around the world. This was the majority of my reading after high school. -
James Patterson
For pleasure reading I have always loved James Patterson books. I seems like he would run out of interesting ideas, but nope he always has a twist I didn't see coming. I have been reading his books for about 10 years.
