Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott was a slave who sued the courts over his right to become a free person. The case made it all the way to the Supreme Court, they ruled that Scott never was a citizen, just property so he and every other slave, would remain a slave even in free states. -

This bills first primary goal was to bring relief to the elderly and unemployed. But the program has been amended many times since then. Today Social Security cards are given to kids when they are born, and the program builds up money for your retierment. -
Brown vs. Board of Education
This dealt with the desegeration of schools across America, while also adressing the ruling on the case Plessy vs. Ferguson, saying that separtate is equall. This court case accomplished the integration of most public schools in the country. -
McCarthy Hearings
McCarthy is now tied to the phrase McCarthyism, which points back to when he claimed to have found a great many communist supporters still working for government agencies. When McCarthy decided to take on the Army, it was clear he had met his match. These cases would lead to end of McCarthy's career as a Senator. -
Civil Rights Act 1964
This outlawed discrimination against all different ethnic groups. The purpose of this bill was to garentee equal protection under the fourteenth amendment. The Civil Rights Act expanded on Women's rights and Desegregation. -
Start of Medicare
Under President Johnson the Medicare program was signed into law. This program garantees health insurance to anyone over the age of 65. Or to those with sevre medical disablilities. -
Watergate Affair
Started with the arrest of five for breaking and entering the Watergate complex. At first the Nixon adminitration tried to cover-up their involvement, but the outcome was the arrest of 43 top officials in the Presidents cabinet. Also President Nixon resigned from office, and was pardoned by Carter. The result of this scandal was a forever stain in America's historyl. -
Reagan's "Tear Down this Wall" Speech
This was a speech calling the Soviet Union leaders to tear down the Berlin wall, a widely know symbol for communism. And to also signify the start of accepting freedom. This would not happen right away, but when the tear down of the wall started, fomer President Reagan was there to see it through. -
Clinton's Impeachment
After first denying impeachment charges of purjury and obsturction of justice, President Bill Clinton admitted to these act via a national address. There were much personal and political uncertainty over the course of this scandal; which lasted almost a whole year. The end result was Clinto being aquitted in February of 1999.
