The start of the railroads
As early as 1550 the Germans were using the first wagon with wooden wheels and over time the wooden wheels were replaced with iron wheels. Over a couple hundreded years the wagon was soon replaced by the railway lcomotive that was much faster and cheaper. -
First Railroad
1821 when Richard Trevithick built the first railway locomotive steam engine, he started the growth of the need for railways and the growth of many small cities in Europe and America. -

Construstion the expansion of the Railroads
The conrucition of the railroad was built By the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and so began the expansion of the railraods which continued till 1869. When the Central and Union workers meet in Promontory, Utah connecting the East and West side of the United States together. -
The Industrial Revolution
During the Industrial Revolution the railroads help it expand greatl by helping transport all kinds of goods that were made all over Europe and America. Like coal it woud be taken to factories so the factories could make iron or steel to make more trains. -
The Gold Rush
In the mid-1800's on the Western coast of the United States gold was discovered near creaks or in mines. With trains being able now to carry hundreds of people while carrying hundreds of pounds of all kinds of supplies. The Railroad helped move settlers from the East side all the way to the West side. -
Expansion of the railroads
3 things caused the expansion of he railroands the Industial Revolution, the Civil War, and the Westward expansion. These kep points in time caused the expansion of the Railroads in whiched extremely helped the U.S. growth. -
Civil War
Even during a war railroads were a big part of wheither a side would win or loose. The trains could carry soldiers, supplies, and weapons. Trains played a big part in the Civil War just as they did during the Industrial Revolution. -
Industiral Revolution changes railroads
With the invention of the railroad it made transporting goods and people easier and cheeper. It made more jobs for all since it gave many a chance to find jobs to feed their familys. -
The Golden Spike
On this date the East and West side of the United States were put together for the first time when Central and Union workers meet in Promontory, Utah the connect their railroads with the "The Golden Stake". It was the last spike to be put in the railroad to finalize the construstion of the railroads. -
The Great War

Railroads today
Today we have trains that can go hundreds of miles which shows how much the train has improved over time . The first train could probably go from 20-50 depending on what its carring.
