    Battle of Atlantic (Sig. 3)
The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest campaign in WWII which lasted 6 years until the defeat of Nazi,Germany in 1945. Britain wanted to transport weapons, raw materials, and food across the Atlantic by ship, however German Uboats were planning to cut them off by sinking those merchant ships. To prevent this from happening, Britain was escorted by convoy protection ships, most of them being part of the Royal Canadian Navy. It goes down in history as the longest, largest battle on water ever.

    Battle of Dunkirk (Sig.6)
In this battle, Canadians stepped up to the pate demonstrating courage in their support to the British. Canadians were the only equipped division in Southern England at the time of the German invasion. After loosing 75,000 of their 80,000 military vehicles, Britain turned to the Canadian auto industry for help. The C.A.I produced over 800,000 armed military vehicles, including tanks, guns, and small arms. Canada showcased tremendeous bravery in this battle.

The Battle of Britain was the biggest air battle as well as the first vital battle in WWII. Germany used their powerful airforce to their advantage and begun to bomb British ports and airfields. The RCAFe dashed to attack German planes. By the end of the battle, due to the daring perservarance of the RCAF, Germans failed to crash the Allied air defenses and lost 60 aircraft.
  • Battle of Hong Kong (Sig.7)

    Battle of Hong Kong (Sig.7)
Canadians at Hong Kong fought against difficult odds showing them little chance of victory, however Canada stayed true to their courageous ways and refused to surrender until they were overrun by the enemy. Canada sent 1975 troops (who were still undergoing training and not fully equipped) to help defend the British colony. The Japanese attacked Hong Kong and although unexperienced, Canadian troops fought like the true veterans we know them to be.
  • Dieppe (Sig.8)

    Dieppe (Sig.8)
The Battle of Dieppe was a test for the full-scale invasion of Western Europe. Britain had a plan to raid the French coastal town of Dieppe and distract the Germans, 5000 Canadian troops hungrily accepted and supported the British. This battle quickly became a disaster for the Canadians. Leaving nearly 1000 dead and taking roughly 2000 prisoner due to the unexpected strength of the Germans in which Canadians did not anticipate seeing.
  • Italian Campaign (Sig.5)

    Italian Campaign (Sig.5)
The Italian Campaign was everyone against Nazi Germany. This was Canadas first steady land operation in WWII. Canadian troops captured the port of Ortona in December of 1943. Canadians broke through German line defences south of Rome and burst through the heavily-defended lines further north in May 1944. This campaign was long and well-fought by Canadian troops.
  • D-Day Sig.1)

    D-Day Sig.1)
The liberation of France begins on DDday when Allies invaded Western Europe. Canada had a major role in the sucsess of DDay. At Dieppe (the original "testing" for DDay) Canadian troops lacked the needed satisfactory support. However, at DDay the R.C.N. and the R.C.A.F. helped to gain victory by bombing and attacking ememy tagets. I chose DDay to be the most significant because it conclusivly made the last few steps to the end of war and without the aid of Canada, we wouldnt see DDay's sucsess.

As the Allied armies advanced to the German-occupied Netherlands, the 3rd Canadian Division cleared the south bank of the River Scheldt, as the 2nd Canadian Divison fought along the north bank. Canadian troops from Italy then quickly moved forward towards the North Sea with their support, the Allies were able to fight until German defenses crumbles from lack of supplies and men.
