The Beginning
Racism was usually applied to the treatment of individuals and the belief that one individual was racially inferior. The term has since broadened to include institutional racism describing political, and social institutions that operate to the detriment of a specific individual/group. Cultural racism is based on the supposed incompatibility of traditions rather than ideas of innate biological superiority. The start of segregation/racism in Canada came in the mid-1800s (1840). -
