Biosocial Development: Come home from the hospital
I was in the hospital in the NICU for 14 days. I was in the incubator for jaundice, and on heart and breathing monitors. When my parents brought me home they needed to learn infant CPR. Since my lungs weren't quite fully developed the breathing and heart monitor was necessary in order to take me home. The doctors however felt I was strong enough to come home though. -

Biosocial Development: Lost 1st tooth
This one for me may be also psychosocial. I lost it in our Monroe Ice Cream Shop, and I literally lost it. Even after we pulled up our floor (it had a step-we thought it fell down a crack) we still couldn't find it. I was very upset. I thought the tooth fairy wouldn't know to come. -

She was a German Shepard my parents rescued. Holly used to come to my uncles work and they would feed her, he asked my parents if they would take her in because he already had a dog. He said she was too good of a dog to send to a pound. She ended up being one great dog. The whole family was crushed. -

We went to an ultra-sound to hear the baby's heart rate. We heard not just one heart beat.....TWO!

One of my teacher's, Miss. Yarbrough, was a figure skating coach in Trenton. It was my dream to figure skate. She helped talk to my mom and dad to sign me up for lessons. -

Abnormal Newborn Screening came back 99.9% certain that Devin had a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis and need to be confirmed with a sweat test at DMC Children's Hospital. -
Psychosocial: Met Dr. Gugliani and had a sweat test done.
Sweat test came back positive for Cystic Fibrosis. -
Biosocial: Devin started Enzymes and Breathing Treatments
Devin ate from a spoon for the first time to take his enzymes that he needed to absorb and digest the nutrients. Started Albuterol 3x day

A new medicine, Hypertonic Saline (Sodium Chloride) 7%, inhaled through a nebulizer turns mucous in lungs to liquid. Founded by Australian surfers while surfing, told their specialist that they could breathe easier while out on the ocean. The vapor mimics the salt water vapor from the ocean! -

Met Dr. Madgy. Devin's sinusitis was so bad (full of polyps, infection, etc) couldn't tell the difference between bone and sinus cavity. There was some damage to orbital bones and ethmoid bones. Dr. Madgy made it a priority to schedule Devin for surgery immediately. He actually left for his vacation that same day Devin had his first surgery. -

Our hearts were literally broken. Our Pulmonologist, Dr. Gugliani, who was such a big part of our lives, moved to Georgia to further his research in CF and work at the Children's in Atlanta. We wish him the best of luck, but we still miss him! Devin still asks about him. -

I legally changed Devin's last name from his father's to my last name. :) -
Biosocial: ENT found Devin's polyps returned
Started 6 day steroid treatment, in attempt to shrink the polyps to prolong surgery. -
Psychosocial: Devin Turns 4!!!
Devin is now a 4 year old, living with Cystic Fibrosis, and has yet to be hospitalized due to CF related illness. We are another year blessed! -
Biosocial: ENT decides Dev's polyps are too big still
even after steroid treatment, Dev's polyps are still too big for comfort and is affecting his active daily life. ENT decides we are doing a CT scan to take a look at the damage before surgery again. ENT explains; There is a possible link to a CF individual with great lung function will have more severe nasal problems and vise versa. There isn't anything I am doing wrong or not doing that can help the return of these polyps. We cannot overlook that it has been too soon for them to return though -
