    Received first patent in 1876 for inventing the telephone even though there were hundreds of lawsuits against him. Bell was focused on developing a voice transmitting device, which later became the telephone. His first successful call was to his assistant Thomas Watson.

    Thomas Edison was the first person to get the invention patented. He tested more than 3,000 shapes and designs for the lightbulb. In Edison's laboratory he had his team of researchers that helped him.

    The Tenement Act were laws that banned poorly ventilated tenement buildings and poor lighting in New York. The apartment barely met the minimum standards of sanitation, comfort, and safety. The Tenement Act helped apartments meet those standards.

    Women got the right to vote
    Women's suffrage was given and made up the 19th amendment. They fought long and hard for their rights during the suffrage movement. Women's voices were finally heard and they got the right to vote.
