Teddy Roosevelt

Business Reform
The Square Deal says that "everyman has a square deal, and limiting the power of trusts, and to improve working condistions". This promises by Teddy Roosevelt that their will be fair treatment for business, and wokers.

Public Service Reform
In 1902, Congress passed the Newlands Reclamation Act, which allowed money from the sales of public land to be used for irrigation and reclamation which was making damaged or destryed land productive again. Which in 1908 led to a National Conservation Commission to study national resources issues.

Elkins Act.
It was an act that forbade shippers rebates, which was moneys that was secretly given back to the shippers for their business. Which tied into corupt business reform becuase it stoped under the counter payments.

Jane Addams
Jane Addams was for reform, she created and started up many groups fop womens rights and sufferage. She also made Hull Houses to have a safe place for children to stay when their parents were working.

Corrupt Practices Reform
The “Wisconsin Idea.” State governments often provided the nexus between national and local issues, especially since the United States Senate, until the Sixteenth Amendment was passed in 1913—was still elected by state legislatures. Robert M. La Follette, was able to identify the corrupting influence of large corporations on both state and national governments.

H.G. Welles
H.G. Welles wrote was an author who wrote the book"The Future of America" in 1906. In book his he talked about where America will be in 30 years, which insisted about reform. He promoted his ideas about reform through his writings.

Food and Drug Act
The Food and Drug Act was passed in 1906. It made the manufacture, sale, and transporation of food containing harmful ingridients illiegal. This act was passed to reform public health, and made society healthier.

Hepburn Act Passed
The Hepburn Act was passed in 1906, it allowed the ICC to set railroad rates and regulate other companies that were involved in interstate commerce. This regulated the railroad industry, therfore made it a progressive movment.

Charles Evans Hughes
Charles Evans Hughes was a Governer of New York from 1903-1907. He fought to stop corrupt practices in his city of New York.

Lincoln Steffens
Lincoln Steffens was a muckraker which meant that he exposed political corruption in many large cities. Steffens wanted political reform in large cities in America by appealing to the public of America. NAACP
In 1909. in an effort to end racial dismrimination, white Progressive leaders such as Jane Addams helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP), Which was an organization which had a magazine that publicized cases for social reforms that would ensure equal rights for African Americans.

William Jennings Bryan

New Nationalism

Secret ballet formed
Each political party used to have their own color ballet forms which made it easy for people to see who othr people are voting for. Voters could vote for people is a lot of other voters were voting for. Then the government made it that every candidate would be on one slip with a checkbox net to the candidate's name, and this process made voting more privite.

Society of American Indians
A group of 50 Native Americans moslty the middle class, from this group to address problems facing the Native Americans, and also try to improve the image of the Native Americans. Like for example the group tried to improve Indian health, civil rights, education, and local government.

Underwood Tariff Act
This Act reduced taxes to make up for the lost revenue, this at also increased the taxes of those who had higher incomes, and lower taxes to the people who had lower taxes.

Federal Reserve Act
The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 created a three level banking system for the federal government. It was a form of economic reform and was succesful in strengthening the economy.

Clayton Antitrust Act
This act clarified and extended the Sherman Antitrust Act, which clearitied that compienes could not sell goods below cost to drive their compeditors out of business, Also also not buy out competing companies stock to create a monopoly. This act like a lot others in the progessive era help the public fom being used. This act froceted corrupt business.

Labor reform
The National Child Labor Committee throught out te early part of the 1900's attempted to persuade Congress to regulate child labour. In 1916 Congress passed the Keating-Owen Act. which forbid employing children under 14 years of age, of mines employing children under 16 years of age, and the products of any of these employing children under 16 who worked at night, and limited the hours of all children in the workplace.

Robert La Follette
Robert La Follette was for reforming local and state governments, and regulating big bussiness to better the public. He was also against railroad trusts, and the american involvment in World War I. He ran for president as a member of the progressive party in 1924.

19th Amendment
The 19th amendment make it legal to vote into the government no matter what your sex, this was the first time that women could have to right to vote. Which was a step in womens rights.
