National Reclamation Act
An act that produced many irrigation projects in the west to encourage people to move to the west. (Conservation) -
Elkins Act
Railroad companies and shippers that offer/accept rebates can be imposed to heavy fines. Railroads cannot change rates without notifying the public. (Farm Problems) -
National Wildlife Refuge System
A system that is used to manage land that is set aside for the conservation of animals and plants. (conservation) -
U.S. Forest Service
A department of the USDA that manages and takes care of the national forests and wetlands. (conservation) -
Hepburn Act
Allowed the ICC to set up a maximum for railroad rates. This lead to free passes (for loyal users) having to be done away with. (Farm Problems) -
Meat Inspection Act
Placed to ensure meat, eggs and poultry were being processed in sanitary conditions. Inspection standards were set up through this act. (Consumer) -
Pure Food and Drug Act
Established to prevent the sale of contaminated or misidentified food and drugs. Food had to be inspected to make sure nothing contaminated was sold. (consumer) -
Muller v Oregon
A battle between Muller and the state of Oregon that was fought to regulate the hours woman could work. (women's rights, labor problems) -
NAACP
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was formed to ensure equality for the colored people and reduce racial discrimination -
16th Amendment
Congress has the power to collect texes according to an individual's income.(inequality in the distribution of wealth) -
17th Amendment
There should always be 2 senators per state. The elected senator will remain in office for 6 years. If a vacancy occurs, the governor has the right to fill in until a new on is elected. (corruption in government) -
Federal Reserve Act
Set up the Federal Reserve System (U.S. banking system) and allowed them to legally distribute the U.S. dollar. -
Federal Trade Commission Act
An effort to eliminate large monopolies. Set up the FTC (Federal Trade Commision) as a way to watch for the monopolies. -
Clayton Anti Trust Act
It was designed to stregthen the Sherman Anti Trust Act. Labor unions and farm organizations have the right to exsist. (Monopolies and business excess, corruption in government) -
Keating-Owen Child Labor Act
Prohibited the sale of product that was made by a 14 (factory) or 16 (mine) year old child. It also stated no child could work more than an 8 hour day and children cannot work at night. (labor problems) -
National Park Service Act
The National Park Service was formed through this act to manage and conserve national parks. (conservation) -
Bunting v. Oregon
A case brought to the Supreme Court that resulted in the acceptance of a 10 hour workday for both men and women. (labor problems, inequality in distribution of wealth) -
Hammer v. Dagenhart
Prohibited the goods made by a child to be transported across state lines. (labor problems) -
18th Amendment
Alcohol is not allowed to be made, sold or transported, in exception to alcohol used for religious use.(consumer) -
19th Amendment
No one can be denied the right to vote according to their gender. (women's rights)
