    Creation of the Dual Alliance
    In 1879 Prussia's chancellor,Otto von Bismark, established the Dual alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary.He worked hard to try and isolate France because he thought France would try to get revenge on their defeat in the Franco-Prussian war.
    This event contributed to the reason that the war errupted between many countries. Without this alliance countries wouldn't have taken sides for the war.

    In Bismark's continued attempt at isolating France he created the thir alliance by adding Italy. Now the alliance between Germany and Austria-Hungary had expanded to Italy as well.
    Once again this alliance was important becasue it helped isolate and divide the cuntries which contributed to the spread of declaration of war.

    Kaiser Wilhelm II came into power of Germany in 1888 when he forced Bismarck to resign. Wilhelm's main concern was showing the world how powerful and mighty Germany had become, as well as promoting his own power. But in 1890 the german's treaty with Russia fell.

    This began a time of great change for Russia. Many of their old beliefs and policies changed and their new ruler had his focus narrowed in on other aspects.

    In 1892 after Germany's alliance with Russia fell, France and Russia took up a military alliance out of defense. Bismarck realized that this means that if a war were to start with either France or Russia that germany would have to fight a war on it's eatern and wetern borders.
    As many of the alliances during this time span did, this contributed to the war because without this teaming together of counries then the war separations may have been different.

    In an effort to make the German navy as powerful as the British' fleet Wilhelm began shipbuilding.Britian made an entente with France and Russia in 1907. It was called the Triple Entente and it ensured that France and Russia wouldn't fight against Britian.
    This event added security that fighting in these territories would not occur.It also Influenced who sided with who in the war.

    Austria annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina
    In 1908 Austria took control over Bosnia and Herzegovina. This caused a lot of tension between Serbia and Austria, causing the Serbs to promise ot take control over these countries. This triggered the Austrians to promise to defeat them in their efforts.
    This event was important because it added to the building tension between many countries.

    Russia was one of Serbia's allies, when waar was declared on the Serbs they took their army and began moving towards the Austrian boarder, triggering war.

    A 19 year-old Serbian, and member of the Black Hand(secret society which rids Bosnia of Austrian rule), shot the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. The couple was on a visit to the capitol of Bosnia, Sarajevo, they were shot while riding in an open car through the streets.

    Because the assisin of their Archduke was Serbian the Austrians took advantage of th eexcuse to punish them. July 23 an ultimatium was presented to the Serbians which included many demands form the Austrians. Serbia responded saying they would accept most of the demands but not all. However, Austria did not want to negotiate so on July 28 they declared war.
    This event led to the begining of world war I and was the last straw in the building tension between countries.
