The French & Indian War
"Political" for "Colonial Life" It was a conflict between Austria, England, France, Prussia, Sweden, North America, & India. At 1st Sweden, Austria, & France were all looking to take down the king of Prussia, "Frederick The Great". 2nd it was the English vs. the French for colonial areas in North America, Carribean, & India.The Legislature of England was to tax,U.S. to payback the expence of the battle in North America, also wanted to restore cash from the East India Company of battle in India. -
Eli Whitney The Great Inventor
"Social" for "Industrialization". He was born in Westboro, Massachusetts, he was a craftsman he paid his way through Yale University by fixing Various machines. He manufactured ffirearms, he mad muskets, He would get a contract to supply the U.S. government with 10,000 muskets in two years. He made the cotton which was a huge machine back then. He also came up with interchangeable parts that would be for guns or small machines if it broke Eli was the man to fix it. -
Tea Act
"Economic" for "American Revolution" The Britsh parliament wanted to put a hold on the tea then to increase the deposit of black "Bohea" tea to be sold at the East India Company price. Which would give power to the commissoners of treasury, which then they would approved to gives liences to the east India Company to export tea dutyfree. This act was passed on May 10th, 1773, it was to awaken the East India Company who was struggling with their finaciation and yeilding 18 mill of unsold tea. -
Boston tea party
"Political " for "American Revolution" Colonists refused to pay tax, East India Company sent 3 shipments of tea to boston. This sparked a furious reaction as they were docked in th harbor a meeting was being held in the old south meeting house. They told the collector of customs to leave the harbor with out pay, he refused. About 200 men dressed as Indians armed with hachets, clubs, tomahawks, raided the ships dumping their cargo of tea into the boston harbor, estimate of 342 crates of tea. -
Resources
Colonial life " Economic" These were the "cash crops" Indigo, wheat, fish, orn, potatoes. would buy and or trade with Indians. Tobacco was very profitable back then if you could grow it in the south you could become very rich. The lumber was important becuase it was everything to them their house's, boats, bridges, it was very profitable if you could move it. -
Cotton Gin
"Intellectual" for "Industrialization". The Cotton Gin was invented by Eli Whitney, it would revolutionized the cotton. It generated up to Fifty pounds of cleaned cotton dailey and separated the seeds out of the cotton. Farming cotton required hundresd of man hours to separate the cotton seeds from raw cotton fibers. -
Sedition Act
Formation of Government "Social" A hint of war with france congress passed it to Strengthen federal government. "Any Treasonable activity including the publication of "Any fasle scandalous, and malicious writing" as a misdemeanor, punishable by fine and imprisonment. About 25 men of republican newspapers were arrested and newspaper were shut down." -
Louisana purchase
Manifest Destiny "Economic" This vast land was purchased by Thomas Jefferson of the United States for $15 million dollars, which is over 800,000 square miles. It was one of Jefferson greatest achievements, Napoleon of Spain used the money to fund his conquest of Europe. -
Embargo act
Formation of Government "Economic" Law that was approved by the Congress and signed by our President Thomas Jefferson. It was to stop all trade betweeen America and any other country. Supposed to get attention of Britain and France who were fighting over keeping with in limits American trade. This act exploded in the American face which we suffered but the law only stayed till 1809 -
Warhawks
Formation of Government "Political" They were an excclusive group about 20 Democratic Republicans, who convinced congress into supporting a declaration of war against Britain. These men were from the south and western U.S. They were furious at the Impressment of Britain and the Order of Council, effecting the American Economy. They were also fed up with there president Thomas Jefferson and James Madison about there Military plans -
Prison Reform
Reform Movement "Social" They were run by Dorrathea Dix Imates of all different kinds of races, men and women were put in these prisons. People were beaten, raped, mentally ill, had disease's, many of the imates were suffering, was said to be even worse then slavery. Innocent black men were charged with crimes the didnt commitee, the prisons in southen american and western were worse then any where else in american. Their was over crowding, no running water, over worked bathrooms were holes. -
Missouri Compromise
"Political" for "Industrialization".
Missouri would enter the Union as a slave state. Maine would join union as a free state, keepin the number of slave states equal to the number of free states. Slavery was prohibited in any new territories or state formed north of 36 degrees 30' Latitude, "Missouri's southern border. I would have to save that this wasnt a hisotry of because there was still strong disagreemets between the North and South over expansion of slavery. -
Treaty of Guadalupe
This ended the war between the United States and Mexico, it was signed February 1848, one of oldest treaties. It is still between the U.S. and Mexico, the United States earned over 50,000 square milles of territory land. This document was very important because it created the "international, domestic histories of both countries. It also established a paettern of political and military inequalities of the U.S. and Mexico. -
Civil war
Economic Free states, free labor controlled 5% of population owned 70% of total property, canals and roads payed by the states, bank. The railroads were great for transportation for the soldiers more supplies and men. Ironclads were a metal ship, great for protection they would sink wooden ships. These ships dominatednavy operations. -
Lincolns Plan
Reconstruction"Political" His plan was to give amnesty to all southners who took on oath of loyalty to the United States. When 10% of a state is voted in the 1860 presidentrial election of 1860 which organised a new state of Government. -
Civil war
Political:free states opposed the expansion of slavery, favored government intervention in economic, social, and state rights "liberty laws"Slave states favored expansion of slavery, they oppsed government interference in economy or social issues, states rights citizens have a right to take property. -
54th Regiment
"Social" for Civil War this men were of Massachusetts they were all African Americans except for their white general. The 1st reginment in the north thaty was all black so they watched there progress. They were organized by the governer; John A. Andrew ,Colonel Robert Gould Shaw commanded this Regiment, and Andrew himself handpicked the officers. It consisted of 500 men and 13 officers there wages were supposed to be $13 but were cut to $10. Most of the men didnt get paid before death. -
54 Regiment
They were to fight for the union, lincoln had them move to florida to win a victory to bring this state back to the union. they would take jacksonvile and move to go against the confederate. This would be a miserable battle, they ran out of ammunition. During this eighty-six of the five hundred men were killed or wounded. They would then go to fort wagner were they would fall and lose half of there men and colonel shaw, the sergeant would get the metal of honor for still holdin the flag. -
14th Amendment
Reconstruction "Social" This Amendment stated that Any one born in The United States has a right of a United States Ciziten no matter where there parents are from. No state will remove any person of life, liberty, or propety without due process of the law. -
Loyalists & Patriots
"Social" for "American Revolution" They both look at each other as traitors. The Loyalists were North American colonists, loyal to men of the British crown. They were known as Tories, after the war if they didnt want to live in the USA they would live in Canada. Their title; United Empire Loyalists. Now the patriots "rebels or whigs" were free Americans. Both sides fought in the Revolutionary War. -
Abolitionlists
Reform Movemt "Political" Frederick douglass was a famous writer wrote 3 books. William Lloyd Garrison he wrote numerous speeches. Sojourner Truth was a preacher , famous speech Ain't I a woman? Harriet beecher stowe wrote the key to uncle tom's cabin. Harriet Tubman resque other people in her family from slavery conducted 300 slaves to the north. john brown a National figure, denounced south as what is known as terrorists. -
Carpetbaggers
Reconstruction " Economic" Notherns would go to the south if they wanted to make money, they would help the south but charge the people alot of money to work. Their was also the "share Cropping" which was when Plantation owners, would rent a peice of land to a slvae to live on it, to grow crops, but they would be charged alot of money that they couldnt pay.
