The start of World War One (-1) x
Though it wasn't immediate, most of the results of the war starting were negative. Bloodshed, economic troubles, family members being forced to leave their homes, etc. Not to mention it heightened the xenophobia in Canada towards the 'other countries'.
  • The Working Woman (+2) ¬☆

    The Working Woman (+2) ¬☆
Throughout the war, women began to be encouraged to work any and all types of jobs. With many men going overseas and leaving their homes to train for combat there was a shortage of workers in all departments. As this went on, a large sum of women proved they were capable of hard labour just like many men, which sparked many feminism and equal rights movements.
  • Foreigners and Internment Camps (-2) ¬☆

Foreigners and Internment Camps (-2) ¬☆
Like said previously, xenophobia became rampant towards people from the 'enemy countries' in Canada during the war. As a result of this, Canada set up internment camps, and forced over 8,500 foreign people into them, essentially enslaving/kidnapping them for 'war measures'.
  • The End of World War One (+1) x

The End of World War One (+1) x
In 1918, the war finally ended, but the effects of it would linger long after, and would stunt some of the previous progress made during (e.g. women being somewhat respected in the workforce). Despite that, the end of the war (obviously) did tremendous good in the sense most of the bloodshed ceased, and many men and some women were able to return home safely.
  • The Beginning of the Roaring Twenties (-2) ¬

The Beginning of the Roaring Twenties (-2) ¬
Canada started the 20's in a state of economic depression and with a lack of jobs as a result of both the war and peoples' conditions due to it. Fourty-two percent of manufacturing jobs were lost with rising prices, to make it more clear just how bad it was.
  • Canada's Economic Rise (+2) ¬

    Canada's Economic Rise (+2) ¬
Despite Canada's rough start in the 1920's economy-wise, it was soon redeemed by a boom in agriculturally based jobs and exports. This (very obviously) had a positive affect on many, if not all Canadians at the time.
  • The Great Depression (-2) ¬☆x

    The Great Depression (-2) ¬☆x
As soon as Canada's economic up-rise had started, it had ended as well. The Great Depression had begun, being the first worldwide economic downturn in the industrial age. Wages dropped, people were fired, and poverty and general poor life quality was anything but scarce.
